Kathy Gordon thanks former Commissioner Ken Humberston for vaccine message

As spring flowers signal increasing optimism about a return to a more normal Oregon suKathy Gordonmmer, now is the time to redouble our efforts to encourage everyone to get vaccinated to keep neighbors safe.

I especially want to applaud former Clackamas County Commissioner Ken Humberston's message in his editorial. As a grandparent, it's hard to describe the relief and joy that being fully vaccinated means in safely hugging grandchildren and reuniting in responsible ways with friends. We also need to get businesses and schools fully open safely, and the fastest way to do that is everyone stepping up to do their part.

As Commissioner Humberston noted, incredible efforts are being made by manufacturers, health care distributors, doctors, nurses and dedicated volunteers working around the clock to protect community health.

However, as we've seen with the more contagious variants and spikes in infections, we can't abandon safety protocols and need to do a better job of encouraging all those 16 and older to get vaccinated. It's the right thing to do for you, your family and for your community.

So let's show our appreciation to all the frontline workers and health care logistics experts working behind the scenes to make vaccines available at a record pace by doing our part. Get vaccinated today, and let's enjoy a great Oregon summer together.
