Renate Mengelberg: Former landfill could become home to more than 500 apartments, vibrant Market Street

COURTESY RENDERING: LRS ARCHITECTS - A proposed Market Street would seek to mimic the vibancy of downtown Oregon City.I am enthusiastic about the visionary and multifaceted Summit development proposal for the former landfill site. OREGON CITY - Renate Mengelberg

This challenging site could become home to more than 500 apartments, a vibrant Market Street with smaller retail and office space and three large retail buildings. The Summit team understands what Oregon City needs and what will work best for us.

This project will create more than 4,000 jobs and bring in $3.3 million in new annual property tax revenue. I encourage the city to partner with Summit to address the landfill's contamination challenges to bring the exciting project to fruition.

Renate Mengelberg is a former Oregon City commissioner.
