Opinion: Transparency needed on CCSO shooting of suspect
Pamplin Media Group requested that the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office provide the audio file for the grand-jury proceedings in this case. The DA responded this week that the grand jury hasn't yet convened, and said that they could not provide a date for the grand jury's deliberations.
On June 7, a Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputy, assigned to the Happy Valley Police Department, shot and killed Jeremiah Lee Wright.
We do not have the facts of the case, so any opinion is mere speculation. Citizens should use caution before running to either the anti- or pro-police silos. We do not know if the shooting was justified or unjustified. Only the sheriff and DA know the truth.
I am very troubled by the ghostly silence from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office. I am upset that Sheriff Angela Brandenburg has not held a press conference since the shooting. I know she can't give details of the investigation, but she could pacify the citizens of Clackamas County. All she would have to do is acknowledge citizen concerns and promise to seek justice. That's all. We need something. Anything. Good government requires transparency.
