Letter writer says former Happy Valley mayor will fight for veterans, redeem our sacrifice

Congressman Kurt Schrader has betrayed veterans. For some reason he believed that the Biden Afghan withdrawal plan was just peachy. On my wrist is a bracelet with the names of eight friends killed in one combat tour. My heart bleeds for them. They fought for women and children. They died to provide a better way of life for the downtrodden. What is their legacy? Afghans falling from C-130s and getting crushed in landing gears?

Oregon's 5th Congressional District has been ill-served by a representative who doesn't listen to constituents. He thinks he can keep the veteran community in his pocket by throwing money at us. We aren't mercenaries; we're patriots. We see through the lies.Brian Fitzgerald

I am a yellow-dog Democrat and former vice president of the University of Oregon College Democrats in the late '90s. I've been canvassing before I could legally drink. I've been a hatchet man for the Democratic Party since 1996. But that has all changed. I am actively supporting former Happy Valley Mayor Lori Chavez-DeRemer, who believes in America. She can unite both parties, as she did while mayor. And most importantly she will fight for veterans and redeem our sacrifice. It is currently darkness at noonday for veterans. That is going to change. Congressman Schrader will face a united veteran community. Good luck.
