Brian Fitzgerald: If John Wentworth had provided all information to grand jury, then maybe it would have been a fair fight.

COURTESY PHOTO: CLACKAMAS COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY - The police vehicle driven by Deputy Matthew Roach during the Sept. 27 deadly traffic stop and the truck driven by Nathan Thomas Honeycutt.Clackamas County District Attorney John Wentworth recently cleared the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office over the killing of Nathan Honeycutt. This is the second police shooting DA Wentworth has absolved this year in Happy Valley.Brian Fitzgerald

Now the DA's office will point to a grand jury of seven random county citizens as the ones who made the decision. Please, we aren't fools. Everyone knows a grand jury will convict a ham sandwich if the DA says so. The same grand jury will not convict said ham sandwich if the DA says so.

I have been dealing with DA John Wentworth for some time. I know how the man ticks. You don't question him; he's always right. If he doesn't believe Clackamas County did anything wrong, then they are automatically absolved.

If the DA provided the grand jury with all of the information, then maybe it would have been a fair fight.

There is no fair fight against John Wentworth. I've been trying to obtain grand-jury files from Wentworth for over four months. Why doesn't he trust journalists to listen to the grand-jury tapes? What is he hiding? He thumbs his nose at government transparency.

There is an amazing statistic concerning John Wentworth: 0% conviction rate for cops, but nearly a 100% conviction rate if you're poor or black. He certainly has a Manichaean world view.

DA Wentworth needs to realize he isn't living at the Oracle of Delphi, divining truth for us simpletons.
