Doug Matheson: Candidate takes climate change seriously, isn't bought out by special interests.

Jamie McLeod-Skinner is positively different. I got to know her between 2017-19, before, during and after her winning the 2018 Democratic primary and running a competitive campaign against incumbent Greg Walden in Oregon's 2nd Congressional District.Doug Matheson

Both Jamie and her Democratic primary rival Rep. Kurt Schrader are smart, but I have come to see that Jamie distinguishes herself in several important areas.

Jamie has consistently stayed with the principle of not being bought by big money from any sources, including corporate donors like fossil fuels and Big Pharma. Unfortunately, her primary opponent has repeatedly taken money from — and cast votes favoring — special interests like these. Jamie demonstrates with her words, and more importantly her actions, a commitment to hard-working families, the "common man" if you will.

She also has the insight, decency and courage to face and act on the reality that in upholding the constitutional mandate to "promote the general welfare," that this includes future generations — our grandchildren, great-grandchildren and beyond. She takes seriously and with practical urgency that climate change is real and very significantly human caused, with increasing impacts.

Like her, we must have the courage to take on corporate interests. Vote for Jamie McLeod-Skinner.
