Gail Cordell: Clackamas County Democrats did not take lightly endorsing primary opponent, Jamie McLeod-Skinner

Gail CordellMy mailbox has been flooded with slick campaign fliers from Kurt Schrader. I am amazed at his audacity in claiming credit for standing up and doing the right thing only after having his arm twisted by protesters outside his office. Even more insidiously, he guts the essence of the legislation to benefit his major donors. He has become wildly out of touch with his district.

For example, his glossy mailers and puppy-filled TV ads brag about his "leadership" in reducing prescription drug prices. The reality is that he voted against that provision of Build Back Better, watering it down so much that it now only covers 20 drugs total. He claims he is "fiscally responsible." Then why vote against a bill that would have saved the federal government over $500 billion dollars?

I was not surprised when Democratic Parties in four of the six counties in his newly redrawn Congressional district took the unusual step of endorsing his Democratic opponent, Jamie McLeod-Skinner. This was unprecedented and was not taken lightly. Clackamas County Dems wrote a lengthy "Endorsement Position Paper" which spells out their rationale. I encourage all Democratic voters to read it at and make an informed decision.
