Lynn Andersen: I fear that this Oregon City mayoral candidate's statements don't reveal his true qualities or his inability to communicate effectively.

After reading the opinion piece by Leslie Wright, a candidate for mayor in Oregon City, written in response to a previous article that appeared about him in an earlier issue, I am feeling deceived.

I am not feeling deceived by the reporting done by Pamplin Media Group, but rather by the deception being employed by Mr. Wright and whomever is working behind the scenes as his impostor.

I had listened to the Lars Larson interview a few weeks ago in which Mr. Wright spoke about housing the homeless like "the Japanese."

Although he never used the word "internment," his idea of clearing camps and streets by placing the homeless into a vacant school buildings, immediately invoked images from our history books of the internment of thousands of Japanese citizens.

After reading Mr. Wright's response to the Pamplin Media article, it becomes clear that he did a very poor job of communicating his actual intent during the Larson show. It is this poor job of communication that I wish to address here.

In the reading of Mr. Wright's opinion article, I feel there is an attempt to deceive the voting public about the real identity and ability of Mr. Wright.

Although the opinion piece claims to have been authored by Leslie Wright, it is glaringly obvious that someone else has written this piece on his behalf. I'm not saying that Mr. Wright hasn't approved the writing, but simply that it does not reflect the true nature of Mr. Wright's ability to effectively communicate.

I strongly encourage all voters to listen to the Larson interview at Even more important, I recommend that voters watch the Facebook candidates forum ( conducted a little more than a year ago when Mr. Wright previously ran for mayor.

I believe that after viewing or listening to Mr. Wright speak, one will be left wondering who actually wrote the opinion article.

It is important that voters gain a true understanding of their candidates for mayor. A large number of citizens rely almost solely on the candidate's statement appearing in the Voters' Pamphlet. After seeing this charade of misrepresentation, I fear that this candidate's statement will not reveal his true qualities, or his inability to communicate effectively, as it will most likely be written by someone else.

Whomever is writing on his behalf is doing an admirable job. Perhaps they should be running for mayor instead of trying to pull this act of bait-and-switch on the voters.
