Roger and Christina Fowler-Thias: Candidate wants to balance community growth and development with livability.

Oregon City has a leadership vote coming up on Nov. 8, which could make a difference for our city's future.

Karla Laws has worked tirelessly the last two and a half years, representing the interests of the Elyville (Barclay Hills) neighborhood as its chairperson, while promoting the importance of neighborhood associations as a member of the Citizens Involvement Committee, a city-sanctioned organization.

Like many of us, Karla has concerns with the livability aspects of our community being in balance with growth and development. In particular, she sees the incredible amount of "infill development" being in conflict with existing older neighborhoods, as well as the rapid pace of urbanization.

Her background in fiscal management, business acumen and budgeting gives her the ability to asses these issues as they pertain to the expectations of Oregon City's citizens.

Karla is a very strong advocate for realistic parks support and funding. As a board member and secretary of the Oregon City Parks Foundation, she understands the role of volunteers and hopes volunteerism will be both encouraged and supported.

We urge your support to elect Karla Laws as the "commissioner for our citizens."

Roger and Christina Fowler-Thias are residents of Oregon City.
