As the city attorney for Oregon City for over 27 years, I have seen many planning commissioners, mayors and city commissioners come and go during that time.

Ed SullivanI have a great deal of respect for Damon Mabee, who ran two honorable campaigns for city commissioner and focused on issues of concern to city residents and taxpayers. I have no doubt he is running a similar, honorable campaign. Before he was defeated in his re-election bid, Damon conducted himself honorably as a member of the City Commission.

Nevertheless, I am even more impressed by the evolution of Mayor Holladay over an even longer period from citizen activist (and sometimes gadfly), to involved citizen leader, to trusted task-force member, to city commissioner and now mayor. Over this period, Dan has managed his enthusiasm in order to accomplish goals and to be an articulate representative of the people he serves.

Oregon City faces challenges with the Willamette Falls Legacy Project, the revitalization of downtown, and attraction of business and tourism, in addition to the many "behind the scenes" activities that the mayor and City Commission perform in dealing with personnel, facilities, public safety and planning.

The city seems to be on the right track and has two worthy people to choose from as mayor. However, it appears there is little reason to change city leadership now and that Mayor Holladay has the experience and character to continue his leadership role for Oregon City.
