Gamba: Schrader unwilling to rein in president-criminal
Our president committed an act of war when he assassinated a high-ranking government official.
The current Congress seems unwilling or unable to rein him in. To the contrary, they recently voted to increase our already bloated Military Industrial Complex budget — to $738 billion a year — and stripped out of the same bill provisions that could have forestalled this very callous and calculated attempt to put us into yet another endless Middle Eastern war.
Congressman Schrader was among the people who voted to give Trump more money, when it should have been obvious that he would do exactly what he has done. Every president who gets into trouble arranges for significant military action in order to distract from their troubles at home. A president like Trump, who clearly has no qualms about spending American blood or treasure, wouldn't think twice about going to war if he thought it would help him in the upcoming impeachment trial.
Instead of spending money on yet another war, with yet another country that has not attacked us, perhaps we should be investing those trillions putting people to work to stop the real existential threat that our country actually faces — climate chaos. But Congressman Schrader and the rest of the status-quo Congress would rather spend money sending other people's children to die for cheap oil.
Milwaukie Mayor Mark Gamba is a candidate seeking to unseat Congressman Kurt Schrader in the Democratic primary.
