Philip Foster Farm receives grant

The Kinsman Foundation of Milwaukie, which supports Oregon architectural preservation projects, awarded $8,900 in grant funds to the Jacknife-Zion-Horseheaven Historical Society for a repainting of the interior and exterior of the 1883 farmhouse on Philip Foster Farm.

Also, the society took a complete inventory of items at the farm to update the society’s collections inventory program.

Local man pursues charter amendment

James Dysart of Estacada is gathering signatures in Estacada and Portland in an attempt to pass an amendment affirming “loyalty to the constitution” in the cities’ charters.

The text of the proposed amendment reads, “It is resolved this ___ day of ____, 2014 that every local, state and federal government official, police officer, sheriff, military member, as well as all other citizens and non-citizens, while within the physical boundaries of the City/County/Township of __________, shall be guaranteed every legal protection and right guaranteed in the Constitution for the United States of America of 1787 and our Bill of Rights. These rights include but are not limited to: freedom of speech, freedom of religion, the right to bear arms, protection from illegal search and seizure, protection against kidnapping, indefinite detention, denial of charges or trials, voting or other politically motivated intimidation, murder, poisoning, expatriation, torture or violence of any kind."

Dysart is a radio producer for PANDA (People Against the National Defense Authorization Act).

As a Mormon, Dysart said he feels personally threatened by the Obama administration's actions.

“I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day such, I have been labeled a potential terrorist by the Obama administration's DHS because we are all Christian and support having more than seven days of food storage,” he wrote in an email.

“(National Defense Authorization Act's) 'Indefinite Detention' Provision was not created to catch or stop terrorists. Obama and Congress are now openly running weapons and cash to Mexican cartels, Al-Qaeda, Neo-Nazis and Muslim Brotherhood terrorists,” Dysart continued. “It was created to target and intimidate everyone who opposes terrorism and supports and loves America and its traditional values. It was created for good Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, Seventh-Day Adventists, Lutherans and every other group whose members worship our Lord Jesus Christ, or believe in the Bible at all. It was created for patriots and peacemakers, for good judges, lawyers, law enforcement and military, for home schoolers and soccer moms. It was created for you and me.”

As of June 27, Dysart had gathered 36 Estacada signatures and 28 Portland signatures for the proposed city charter amendment.

Dysart plans to present the proposed amendment to the Estacada City Council upon gathering 100 signatures.
