ESTACADA NEWS PHOTO: EMILY LINDSTRAND - For much of July, the Estacada Veterans Memorial has honored victims of the incidents in Dallas, Texas; Nice, France; and Baton Rouge, La with flags at half staff, additional flowers and a wreath.

In spite of vandalism last week, the Estacada Veterans Memorial continues to honor fallen soldiers and law enforcement officers.

On Friday, July 22, Rita Perry of the Estacada Area Support Our Troops Foundation, the group that manages the memorial, noticed much of the foliage from the memorial’s raised flowerbed had been uprooted.

Soil, bark, mulch and flowers were strewn along the memorial’s walkways.

Members of the Estacada Area Support Our Troops Foundation plan to review surveillance tape footage in an effort to shed light on additional details surrounding the incident.

The flags at the memorial had been at half staff since Thursday, July 7, to honor the five fallen police officers in Dallas, Texas; the victims of the Thursday, July 14, terrorist attacks in Nice, France; and the three police officers who died and three officers who were injured on Sunday, July 17, in Baton Rouge, La.

The flags remained at half staff through dusk Monday, July 25, when the final police officer was laid to rest. Additional flowers and a wreath also honored the fallen.
