Estacada City Hall, schools and library will all be closed today, Jan. 11
Several Estacada agencies, schools and businesses are closed after a significant snowstorm blanketed the region on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, Jan. 11.
The National Weather Service didn't provide exact amounts of snow in Estacada but reported that there were 6 inches in nearby Gresham and 8 inches in Happy Valley as of 8:30 a.m. this morning.
The Estacada School District announced Tuesday night that classes and after-school activities would be cancelled today, because of poor road conditions. Tonight's school board meeting will be rescheduled for later in the month, poetentially next Wednesday, Jan. 18.
Likewise, all of Clackamas Community College's campuses are closed today.
Estacada City Hall offices will be closed for the day. Around the region, Clackamas County government offices and facilities are closed for the day.
The Estacada Public Library will also be closed.
Laurel McCoy, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service's Portland Office, recommended that everyone across the region stay home today if possible.
"Don't drive unless you absolutely have to," she said. "(If you do have to go out) have chains, and be prepared if you get stuck. Leave extra room between other cars."
The Oregon Department of Transportation is requiring chains on all Clackamas County highways.
"Traction tires are not a substitute," Dave Thompson of ODOT said.
McCoy reported that snow would continue to accumulate through this afternoon and that temperatures would remain low through this weekend, although the National Weather Service calls for sun beginning Thursday. She predicted that roads would likely be slick and snowy into Saturday.
The Estacada News will update this post with additional information as it becomes available.
