Estacada residents were able to step inside the town's new Dollar General Store for the first time earlier this week, and store leaders will celebrate the new location with a grand opening event next month.

The store at 116 S.E. Fourth Ave., the site of the former Safari Club, had a soft opening on Monday, Dec. 18. The store's grand opening event is tentatively scheduled for early January and will feature free gift cards and giveaways. Leaders from Dollar General Corp. will share further information about this event in the next few weeks when preparations are finalized.

Many Estacada residents were eager to see the new store. Check out lines reached to the back of the building during the store's first few hours of operation.

Dollar General sells everything from cleaning supplies to clothing, with name-brands such as Procter & Gamble, Kimberly-Clark, Unilever, Kellogg's, General Mills, Nabisco, Hanes, PepsiCo and Coca-Cola. About one-quarter of the store's merchandise costs $1 or less.

In an email to the Estacada News, Angela Petkovic, a member of the Tennessee-based retailers media team, noted that the company strives to offer shoppers "an easy and convenient shopping choice."

"We know convenience is a major factor in our customers' shopping decisions as we generally serve customers within a three- to five-mile radius, or 10-minute drive," she wrote.
