Student leaders at Estacada High School are striving to promote positivity.

Last month, members of the student council launched their kindness campaign, the goal of which is to honor students who exhibit this characteristic and encourage it around school.

Student council members organizing the campaign include Jennifer Garcia, Noemi Castrejeron, Justin Mryrnik, Jared Bresko and Marcy Castaneda.

Each month, student council members will seek nominations from members of the school community for a student who is kind to others. The student who is selected for the month will receive

a video tribute and a gift basket.

Student council members thought kindness was an important attribute to focus on.

"Students are recognized for academic achievements, and we also wanted to focus on who they are," Garcia said.

To encourage positive acts, student council has also created a sign with different scenarios of being kind and are encouraging students to pick one to do for their classmates.

Additionally, the students hope to have bags of fun items to help students de-stress during finals weeks.

"It's a way to say thank you for the students," said Castaneda. "We don't expect anything back, but it's a way to thank them."

Garcia added she appreciates being able to work on the kindness campaign.

"We get to know other people," she said, noting that she enjoys meeting others through the process.
