Earth Day community events abound around Estacada
In observance of Earth Day, there are several upcoming events in which Estacada residents can care for their small corner of the globe.
This year's environmentally friendly day of observance is on Sunday, April 22, and there are several events scheduled for that weekend in Estacada and surrounding areas.
The Clackamas River Basin Council will lead participants in caring for recently planted native trees and shrubs near the Estacada Public Library. The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 21, at the library, 825 N.W. Wade St. Attendees will add mulch to the plants, which will help keep the soil stable and moist. At Milo McIver State Park, volunteers are encouraged to join park staff in removing litter from the Riverbend Day Use Area on Saturday, April 21.
Participants should meet at 10 a.m. at the Alder Shelter in the Riverbend Day Use Area; the event is expected to continue until noon.
Milo McIver State Park is at 24101 S. Entrance Road.
In the Mt. Hood National Forest, several groups have joined forces to organize a cleanup event at the Fish Creek area.
The event will focus on cleaning several dispersed camping sites in the area and is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, April 22. Attendees are encouraged to meet in the parking lot just past the Carter Bridge Day Use and Picnic Site, 14 miles past Estacada.
All ages are welcome at the cleanup, though organizers recommend children younger than 12 be accompanied by an adult. Participants are encouraged to wear boots and gloves and bring items used to pick up trash.
The event will also include a free barbeque lunch and drawings for prizes from Sportsman's Warehouse, Cabela's, Rapid Fire and Sporting Systems.
The cleanup is sponsored by Trash no Land, Tread Lightly!, Clackamas County Dump Stoppers and the U.S. Forest Service.
