Annual cruise-in will support community programs
At the annual American Legion Cruise-In, car aficionados can rev their engines while helping veterans and community members.
This year's event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 7, at the Viewpoint Restaurant and Lounge, 20189 S. Springwater Road. The car show is the largest fundraiser for Estacada's American Legion Carl Douglas Post. Proceeds support such programs as sending students to Boys and Girls State; high school oratorical contests; teacher, law enforcement officer and firefighter of the year awards; and temporary financial assistance for veterans.
The cruise-in will feature first and second place prizes for vehicles in several categories, including decades from 1930 and earlier to present, muscle cars, convertibles, trucks, under construction and "Just 'cause it's neat." Prizes are also awarded for Best in Show, Participants Choice and Viewpoint Trophy, and motorcycles are encouraged to enter the show, as well.
The cruise-in also will offer music and raffle drawings.
Last year, the event featured 138 cars. Organizers are hoping for 150 entrants this year.
"We fill the parking lot with vehicles," said Doug Jamieson of the American Legion.
