Success coach will connect with high school freshmen
A new position at Estacada High School will ensure that the school's youngest students start their academic career strong.
Charlie Jones began as the school's freshmen success coach earlier this summer. Prior to joining the Estacada School District's team, she worked at Impact Learning in Sandy.
She's looking forward to connecting with students at the high school.
"I'm excited to help people find their potential in life by finding their passion, their drive and where they want to go in life," Jones said. "I'm here to hopefully guide and influence people to make the choices that are best for them."
During the upcoming school year, Jones will connect with students in a variety of ways, including meeting with them one-on-one.
"We'll have that person to person connection. The goal is (for students) to attend more, to have better grades and become successful as students," she said. "There's a very specific goal, graduation, but it can encompass everything."
Jones will also facilitate clubs such as Girls Circle and Boys Council.
"(In those groups) they can get to know themselves better. It's a safe place with no judgement," she said.
Jones noted that extra support will be valuable for the incoming ninth graders.
"It's a night and day difference from the middle school to the high school," she said, noting that she's already been working with some students this summer.
She added that she's happy to have formed connections with students as they pre-
pare to begin their freshman year.
"It's an opportunity for them to know this person already at the high school, and know that they have a cheerleading squad already behind them," she said. "It won't be so scary when they walk into the high school."
