Group in Barton looks ahead to Christmas
Christmas is still a few months away, but a group is already hard at work to bring holiday excitement to Barton.
Barton Christmas Corner will take place from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at several locations within the town. Santa will be at Barton Store, 24802 S.E. Bakers Ferry Road, and there will be a live nativity scene and music program at Barton Church, 25400 S.E. Highway 224.
During the event, the Barton Antique Mall at 25618 S.E. Highway 224 will also be decorated for Christmas, and many locations will serve cookies and cider.
Santa will arrive at Barton Store at 5 p.m. via firetruck and will be available for visits and photos.
Additionally, many locations be adorned with Christmas lights, and trees will be available for purchase Dec. 1, 8 and 15 at the store.
Individuals and groups involved with the project include Steve Gibbson, Leon Burkholder, Liz Mitchell, Patrick Sheeham, Jose Sanchez, Gary Willits, Cheryl Young, Don Burton, Performance Auto, Barton Store, Barton Church and the Barton Antique Mall.
"The goal is to get people to come to Barton and show them the community," said Ben Erickson, pastor at Barton Church. "(Barton) is driven through so often, but not stopped at."
Burton said the best part of the evening will be seeing the excitement of young attendees. Along with meeting Santa, children will receive a free gift during the event.
"Santa will give out the Christmas gifts," Burton said.
Priti Mittal of the Barton Store noted that there is usually a Christmas event in Barton, but much more is planned for this year.
"We're planning big time," she said. "They've been working hard all year round."
Kiran Toor, also of the Barton Store, is looking forward to the community element of the evening.
"People get a chance to know each other. It's a gathering," she said.
