Chamber plans a gathering for the stars
The Estacada Chamber of Commerce wants to create an opportunity for the stars of the community to shine.
The chamber's annual community recognition event, scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, will take inspiration from awards shows such as the Oscars. The theme of the evening is "Stars of your community," and accolades will be presented for outstanding senior citizen, outstanding school district employee, outstanding public employee, best new business, outstanding nonprofit organization, outstanding youth and Estacadian of the Year.
Organizers implemented the categories this year to provide the evening with additional structure. Previously, it had mainly focused on volunteers.
"Volunteers are important, but it's not just volunteers
who make this town great," said Nancy Horton, Chamber
of Commerce administrator. "We want to be sure the
people who have gone the extra mile and deserve recognition get it."
This year's gathering will take place in the Fireside Room at Estacada First Baptist Church, 29101 S.E. Eagle Creek Road, since it outgrew its previous home at the Estacada Community Center.
"It's going to be a lot of fun. Every year it's well received," Horton added.
To fit with the Oscars theme, attendees are encouraged to wear "cowboy tuxedos and (their) best flannels." The Cazadero will provide appetizers and desert.
During the ceremony, everyone who has been nominated will be recognized, and one winner will be selected from each category.
The evening is open to anyone who wishes to attend, and those interested should RSVP to the Chamber.
