The Spiral Gallery celebrates student art
The latest show at the Spiral Art Gallery in downtown Estacada showcases the best student work throughout the community.
The student art show, which began Jan. 1 and will continue through the month, has something for everyone. The artists worked with a wide array of mediums, from paintings and drawings, to sculptures, glasswork and jewelry.
"We are always trying to promote local students," said Jerilyn Walker, a member with the artist cooperative. "You never know what type of art will be submitted."
This year the gallery decided to open the entry to allow more people to participate. So while there are many school-aged students in the show, there are also older art students as well, with the ages ranging from 6 to 86. The exciting part for all involved is that this will be the first time many can see their work up in a gallery.
"Art can do so many things for people," Walker said. "It can be healing, lead to positive actions, relieve stress and help communicate thoughts."
The show has more than 30 artists participating, and every piece is available for purchase. There will be an artist reception Friday evening, Jan. 4, where friends and families of those being featured can celebrate their artists.
The Spiral Gallery, 341 S. Broadway St., is made up of members who are active artists practicing in diverse disciplines. The gallery participates in many community activities, including the Summer Celebration every July.
