Spiral Gallery show features outdoor elements
The latest show at The Spiral Gallery takes inspiration from nature.
In "Paint and Clay," Lynn and Oscar Flores have each created a variety of floral pieces that will hang in the gallery at 341 S. Broadway St. during the month of June.
"We used to live in Hawaii, and we were inspired by florals there," Oscar said.
Lynn is a potter and Oscar is a painter. Oscar has a studio on the second floor of their Eagle Creek abode, and Lynn has a studio in a separate structure nearby.
"We each have our different studios," Oscar said. "Sometimes I'll sneak in and see what she's doing."
In the June show, Oscar has a series of brightly-colored paintings, and Lynn has created items like lamps, plates, jars and a clock decorated with leaves and other elements from the outdoors.
Oscar noted that they are inspired by many elements of nature.
"(I like) the whole thing — birds, trees and flowers," he said. "It makes for a good composition of life."
Both Lynn and Oscar are passionate about their craft.
"I really have fun," Oscar said. "I could stay in the studio for 10 years painting because I love it so much."
The couple met in art classes at Portland Community College and have been married since 1973. They've lived in Eagle Creek for many years and appreciate being members of the Spiral Gallery.
"The people are very nice, and very friendly," Oscar said. "It's a very nice group."
