Seismic upgrades are underway on the Estacada Middle School roof.
The work is focused on reinforcing sections of the roof above the auditorium and gymnasium on the building at 500 N.E. Main St. Additionally, increased bracing is being added to the roof's sprinkler system.
Russell Construction began work in mid-June and is expected to be finished by Friday, Aug. 23.
The roof was built in the early 2000s with funding from the school district's 2001 general obligation bond.
The Estacada School District received a $1 million grant for the project, reducing the cost from the district's capital improvement fund to $500,000.
District leaders are happy to see the work being completed.
"The district recognizes that healthy facilities are important to student education," said Michael Waer, maintenance and operations director for the Estacada School District.
