Cascading Rivers Rides scheduled for September and feature activities for riders of all ages

PMG FILE PHOTO - Next month's Cascading Rivers Bike Rides will take participants along the scenic bikeway between Estacada and Detroit.

The Estacada Chamber of Commerce will soon host a series of bike rides designed for all skill levels.

The annual Cascading Rivers Rides are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28, and Sunday, Sept. 29. During the events, participants in the Little Riffles Rides and Raging Rapids Rides will bike along sections of the Cascading Rivers Scenic Bikeway, and those who venture on the Killer Fang Ride will traverse the entire 74-mile bikeway to Detroit and back.

Along the route designated by the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Commission in 2014, bikers pass through the Mt. Hood National Forest and are treated to views of the Clackamas and Breitenbush rivers.

"What's attractive about these rides is that they're off the beaten path," said Phil Lingelbach, one of the events' coordinators, noting that scenery along the routes includes lakes, rivers and old growth forests. "It's a really beautiful ride when you put it all together."

Participants in the 12-mile Little Riffles Ride on Sunday, Sept. 29, can begin their journey at City Hall Cycling Station or at the Faraday West Hydro parking area. The ride's short distance and flat landscape make it an ideal event for families and beginning bike riders.

Those wishing for more of a challenge can participate in one of the Raging Rapids Rides on Sunday, Sept. 29, which allows cyclists to turn back at 35 or 52 miles along the bikeway. On their journey, cyclists pass a variety of sights, including the Estacada, Faraday and North Fork lakes.

Cyclists who embark on the Killer Fang Ride, which spans the entire weekend, take a journey to Detroit and enjoy the natural sights of the Mt. Hood National Forest while reaching elevations as high as 3,125 feet. Once riders reach their destination, they spend the night and ride back to Estacada the following day.
