Presidential Award honoree returns to Estacada schools
Kate Dean is returning to the Estacada School District after receiving the Oregon Biology Teacher of the Year Award and a Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching. She previously taught agriculture and biology in Estacada from 2006-12 prior to spending several years at Centennial High School.
For her work in Estacada, she received the Oregon Biology Teacher of the Year Award in 2012 and the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2015.
Along with assisting students in the classroom, Dean served at the local, county and state levels to support the change to the Common Core state standards, the Next Generation Science Standards and proficiency-based strategies.
Dean said she's excited to return to Estacada, where she will teach biology, AP biology, zoology and anatomy.
"I did a lot of professional growing (at Centennial). I learned a lot that I'll bring with me here," she said, noting that she moved to the Centennial School District to experience working in a larger department. "It feels like I'm coming home (in Estacada). I really like it here, and I've only ever had positive experiences with colleagues."
