Giving tree will connect community members with quilts, cards and more during the Christmas season

PMG PHOTO: EMILY LINDSTRAND - Estacada Community Center staff are excited about their new giving tree program.

Every week, drivers deliver food to the recipients of the Estacada Community Center's Meals on Wheels program, but in the spirit of the holiday season they'll soon bring additional items.

The center is hosting a giving tree that will connect Meals on Wheels recipients will quilts, gloves, hats and Christmas cards.

The giving tree is a new addition to the center's offerings.

"We wanted to do something for (Meals on Wheels recipients) so they know we care," said Jackie Fausto of the Community Center. "It's going to put a lot of smiles on people's faces."

Those interested in supporting the program can stop by the center at 200 S.W. Club House Drive, to purchase a quilt or donate any monetary amount to assist the program. The items have been donated or purchased by the center, and any proceeds will support the Meals on Wheels program.

Items will be delivered to Meals on Wheels recipients on Monday, Dec. 23, and Tuesday, Dec. 24, so those interested in donating to the program should do so before then.

Trixie Hall of the Community Center is looking forward to connecting recipients with the holiday items.

"(The best part will be) providing comfort to recipients of the Meals on Wheels program, and giving them hope for Christmas," she said.
