Rangers at the state park will host a two-mile hike on Wednesday, Jan, 1, at the Maple Ridge Trailhead

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department is encouraging people to begin 2020 outdoors. Across the state, including at Milo McIver State Park in Estacada, there will be 37 hikes in 31 parks that will be guided by a park ranger or volunteer who will share stories about the park's history, geology, wildlife and plants. The hikes are free, and day-use parking fees will be waived.

Milo McIver State Park will host a moderate two mile hike, beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, at the Maple Ridge Trailhead near the lower boat launch parking lot. The hike will include several nature stops. Participants should dress in layers, wear sturdy shoes and bring water as well as a camera or binoculars for wildlife viewing, and dogs must be on a six-foot leash.
