Congressman Earl Blumenauer wins Democratic Party primary for Oregon's Third District in Tuesday election.

FILE - Oregon U.S. Congressman Earl Blumenauer U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer has bested a challenger running to his left in the Democratic Primary election for Oregon's 3rd District, per early returns.

Blumenauer, who has held onto his seat on Capitol Hill since 1996, got 82% of the vote. His main challenger, Albert Lee, received 15%.

"I was delighted with a very strong vote of confidence," Rep. Blumenauer told the Tribune. "We stopped campaigning several months ago and just focused on trying to help connect people with resouces (for COVID-19)... It was gratifying to see the hard work we've done pay off."

Rep. Blumenauer will face Republican Joanna Harbour in the November general election.

Oregon's 3rd District covers Portland and Multnomah County, plus Clackamas County's east of the Willamette River.

"I am proud of the race we ran," said Lee. "We ran up against a series of obstacles both traditional, like the advantage of incumbency, and non-traditional, like the blacklist and the lack of equal time from the media."
