Clackamas County parks, boat ramps to reopen June 1
Clackamas County is set to reopen county-owned parks and boat ramps beginning on Monday, June 1.
The Board of County Commissioners gave County Administrator Gary Schmidt the greenlight to direct the parks administration office to tie up a few final loose ends before parks can reopen.
Schmidt told the board that they were hopeful the county's parks could reopen for Memorial Day weekend, but unfortunately final preparations could not be rushed.
The county is now in the process of finalizing its seasonal hiring to staff parks, placing signage instructing visitors to follow physical distancing measures, installation of new hand-sanitation stations, securing shelters and structures, inspecting park equipment and trimming some potentially hazardous trees at the county's 18 park facilities.
"We're almost there," Schmidt said. "We just couldn't get it done by Memorial Day this weekend, and I don't want to pressure staff to work faster than they already are so that it's done right and ready for June 1."
