River Mill Elementary School, which was offering limited in-person instruction, is closed because of the exposure

COURTESY PHOTO - River Mill Elementary School is closed to limited in-person instruction because of a confirmed COVID-19 exposure.

An adult at River Mill Elementary School who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 had no close contact with students.

The Estacada School District was notified by Clackamas County Public Health of the exposure on Thursday, Oct. 8.

Small groups of students were receiving limited in-person instruction at Clackamas River Elementary School and River Mill Elementary School. Participating students have been displaced by the Clackamas County wildfires, are served by Student Services and had difficulty engaging with online learning, or face internet connectivity issues.

The exposed individual is self-isolating and monitoring for any symptoms of COVID-19 for two weeks. Every person who came in close proximity with the individual has been contacted and asked to begin self-isolation and symptom monitoring. Close contact is defined as being within six feet of an individual who has been exposed to a positive case of COVID-19 for more than 15 minutes.

Because of the exposure, both elementary schools are closed, and all students will transition back to comprehensive distance learning. Limited in-person instruction at the secondary level will continue as scheduled.

School meal delivery also will continue as scheduled.

A thorough disinfecting of the impacted school building will occur. District leaders said additional information about when the elementary schools will be able to offer limited in-person instruction again will be released Monday, Oct. 12.
