Group supports community members during the holidays
Estacada Community Watch is taking steps to support others during the holiday season — including connecting families with food during Thanksgiving.
"Part of our group's mission is serving the community," said Joel Litkie, founder of Estacada Community Watch. "We know Thanksgiving is hard for some people each year. With COVID, people's plans to visit relatives might have been nixed, and they might be scrambling to do their own dinner. … Some families lost their entire house in the fires, and they may not be able to cook."
The group hopes to connect up to 50 community members with Thanksgiving food boxes and will deliver them Sunday, Nov. 22.
While working on the project, they're taking a variety of COVID-19 safety precautions, including wearing masks, having fewer than 10 people in one room and using a no-contact delivery system.
Estacada Community Watch also plans to adopt families in need for Christmas. Those interested in nominating someone should contact the group by Monday, Nov. 30.
