Though it will look a bit different than usual, the Springwater Grange will host its annual Strawberry Social this month.

The grange is planning a drive-up celebration with strawberry shortcake on Saturday, June 12. If weather and COVID-19 safety guidelines allow, there will be limited outdoor seating in the field behind the grange hall at 24591 S. Springwater Road.

Typically, the event also features a sit down dinner. It was canceled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, though grange members sold flats of strawberries to interested community members. This year, grange members will serve shortcake for $8 and will include whipped cream, ice cream or both. Attendees are asked to make reservations by contacting the grange at 503-863-0732 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with information about how many shortcakes they wish to order and what time between 2-8 p.m. June 12 they wish to pick them up.

Strawberry Social chairperson Tami Guttridge is happy to see the event return to the grange and noted that they hope to also resume their monthly pancake breakfasts this fall.

"We miss our community and all of the great people who gather at these events. The conversation and fellowship are part of what makes this area great, and keeps neighbors in touch," she said.
