John Walper took the oath of office for the Estacada School Board during the group's most recent meeting.

During a meeting Thursday, July 8, Walper joined the board as the Zone Three representative. Results from the May 18 election updated on June 7 show that Walper garnered 218 votes, 50.11%, while incumbent Helena Snyder received 217 votes, or 49.89%.

"I'm proud to be here. I appreciate the electoral vote that came across in the secondary count," Walper said during the board's July meeting. I'm really interested in what's going on with the schools. I've had children who have gone through it, grandchildren who have gone through it and great grandchildren who are going to be going through it, so that's why I decided to stick my nose in and see if I can make a difference."

Prior to his retirement, Walper worked for Xerox, Proto Tools and Stanley Hydraulic Tools.

Based on results Clackamas County updated shortly after the May 18 election, Pamplin Media Group initially reported that Snyder had won the Estacada School Board race for Zone Three. PMG regrets the error.
