While Estacada resident Kimberlee Dorr was growing up, she trained her own dogs, and now she helps other community members train theirs.

Dorr opened Day Hill Dog Training last year.

"It had always been my dream to open my own facility," she said. "I've always trained my own dogs and have helped others train theirs."

Dorr described dog training as "helping dogs and owners work as a team."

"The dogs learn basic commands, like sit, stay and come," she said.COURTESY PHOTO: DAY HILL DOG TRAINING - Day Hill Dog Training offers several group classes.

Day Hill Dog Training offers basic obedience training, intermediate training, puppy training, private lessons and boarding.

Dorr also facilitates group classes so dogs can learn to socialize with one another.

"With COVID, it's been hard for people to socialize their dogs," she said.

The group classes usually have a maximum of 10 participants.

"It helps (the dogs) have better friendships," Dorr said.

Growing up, Dorr trained dogs and horses.

"When I was a kid, I had a poodle and a collie. I did tricks with them and trained them," she said.

In her spare time, Door enjoys taking her Dobermans to dog shows.

"I love the whole scene," she said. "I love going to shows and seeing other dogs. I like it when I win, but if I don't, that's OK too. You and your dog always learn something new."

She has an affinity for the Doberman breed.

"I love their intelligence," she said. "They're very easy to train. They're great protective dogs, and great family pets."

She noted that the most rewarding part of her work is helping others make connections with their furry friends.

"When I see someone struggling with their pet, it's great to be able to guide them through that struggle and help them become better together," she said.
