Holiday parade will light up Estacada
Brightly decorated vehicles will soon make their way around town with holiday cheer.
The fourth annual Estacada Christmas Light Parade is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11.
"We encourage people to decorate their cars, trucks, tractors, and side-by-sides and light up the town," said Nancy Horton, the event's organizer. "(The best part) is being able to get together again, make people smile and have a good time. That's why we do it."
The group will continue if the evening brings rain, but snow or ice will cancel the event.
When Horton and her husband, Chuck, first started the parade in 2018, there were a total of three vehicles participating. The second year saw 18 vehicles, and the third year drew more than 30.
"The creativity and amount of fun people have is unbelievable," Horton said.
The route takes about an hour to complete. This year, the group will begin at the River Mill Elementary School parking lot, 850 N. Broadway St. From there, they'll drive through Campanella Estates, down Zobrist, Wade and Broadway streets, through the Lakeshore neighborhood, cross Fourth Avenue, through the Cazadero Heights and Mountainview neighborhoods, down Shafford Street, Sixth Avenue and Main Street, ending at the Estacada Fire Department, 261 S.E. Fifth Ave.
At the parade's conclusion, participants will gather near the fire department and give people the opportunity to take photos with the vehicles. Estacada Fire also plans to have a rig in the parade.

"We want it to be a safe and fun event that puts a smile on people's faces," she said, noting that last year's event fell on a young boy's birthday, which was exciting for him and his family.
