AMR won the ambulance contract fair and square

An open letter to the Clackamas County Board of Commissioners:

It’s not often that I sit down and write a letter to my elected officials, but in this case I am going to make an exception.

Let me preface this by saying I am not an ambulance employee and I have nothing to gain or lose from this. I am simply a citizen you represent in Clackamas County.

I have watched the news stories and I have read the paper. Commissioners Ludlow, Smith and Bernard, you should be ashamed of your conduct in this matter. You are clearly pressing personal issues with your County Commission positions.

Here is how we see it:

  • A request for proposals was put out.
  • Proposals were submitted.
  • Only one of those proposals met the requirements and deadlines.
  • How simply can I put this? Award the contract to the ambulance company that met the conditions outlined in the time specified.

There is no provision for extensions of current contracts, no provision for if there is only one company, and certainly no provision for disregarding the RFP now in the quest to “invite new ideas and innovations.”

It’s done. AMR has won this contract fair and square and it needs to be awarded before your actions ultimately cost our county (you and I) millions of dollars in justifiable damages.
