Two decades later, Eagle Creek Elementary second grader Alycia McBride was student of the week

ARCHIVE PHOTO - In 1999, Eagle Creek Elementary School second grader Alycia McBride was the newspapers student of the week.

1969: The Garfield Grange was planning to host a card party. For those who opted not to play cards, there would be other games. "Potluck refreshments will be served later in the evening. There is a small charge of 50 cents each, so come out and enjoy the evening," The News reported. "The proceeds will go toward the building fund of the hall."

1979: Estacada inventor Fred Carlson recently had an item he created featured in "Popular Mechanics." The invention was called ToneLock and was a plastic cover that locked in place over a push button telephone face. Designed to prevent unauthorized use of phones, it cost $10.

1989: Estacada Municipal Clerk Cherrie Dodd was honored during National City Clerk Recognition Week. City Manager Bonnie Parker described Dodd as "the most consistent solid force in this city," praising her for "staying calm in the midst of storms."

1999: Eagle Creek Elementary School second grader Alycia McBride was the newspaper's student of the week. Her favorite subjects were art and writing, and she wanted to be an artist and a dancer when she grew up. She also performed with One Dance Academy in Clackamas. "Alycia loves to dance and it has helped bring out her confidence so much that she is planning on performing a tap solo next year, along with performing on the dance team. We are very proud of her," said her mother Cathleen.

2009: John Croghan of the Estacada Rural Fire District wrote a letter to the editor thanking volunteers for helping with the community's annual Easter egg hunt. Approximately 600 children searched for 225 dozen real eggs and 4,000 plastic eggs. "Thanks to all of you who helped make this a success," he wrote.

2018: Spring Gala attendees packed the elegant banquet room of the Clackamas River RV Park as they enjoyed dinner, live music, and a silent and live auction. Proceeds from the event supported the chamber's marketing efforts for members throughout the year.
