Holiday gallery show features gifts
If you're searching for a one-of-a-kind, handmade gift for someone this holiday season, look no further than the Spiral Gallery.
For their December show, numerous artists in the gallery at 341 Broadway St. have created gifts, all of which cost less than $100. A variety of items will be available, including Christmas ornaments, cards and jewelry.
There will be a reception for the show from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7. Along with festive art, the show will also feature a Christmas tree to share the holiday cheer.
Spiral Gallery artists look forward to their tradition of a group show each December.
"It's fun," said Jami Berry. "Everyone makes fabulous things. It's always a full show. No two items are the same."
"If you need something, you can get a wonderful handmade thing here," added Am Griswold.
Griswold created a variety of items for the show, in-
cluding a series of small tree ornaments from porcelain clay.
"Hang them near a light, and it will light the inside," she advised.
Berry's items in the show include jewelry and cards.
The holidays are a fun source of inspiration for the group. Griswold and Berry estimated that 20 artists are participating in this year's show.
"I love Christmas. It's so festive," Berry said. "I like the colors, the smells and looking at everyone's work."
They noted that there's a special element to handmade gifts.
"From a maker's perspective, so much more goes into it. It feels like there's more love," Griswold said.
"It's original. You can't buy it at Target or Walmart," Berry added.
Griswold encouraged everyone to stop by the show, even if they aren't in the midst of holiday shopping.
"Come and see it," she said. "If you're into buying local, someone in the community made these, come and experience it. Even if you don't need to buy anything, come and enjoy it."
