Vehicles light up town with holiday cruise
Estacada's holiday spirit shined a bit brighter than usual last weekend.
On Saturday, Dec. 15, a new tradition brought festively decorated trailers and motorhomes to the streets of the community. During the "Holiday Light Up Estacada Cruise," vehicles met at River Mill Elementary School and drove by Whispering Pines, downtown Estacada and several other spots around town.
The event was organized by Nancy Horton, who was inspired by a local tradition in the 1980s that saw decorated motorhomes drive around town. She posted the idea on Facebook, where the idea received much interest.
"It was just a spur of the moment thing. I put it on Facebook, and there was so much positive input," she said. "People wanted to see it. I felt maybe the town needed it."
During the cruise, Horton and her husband Chuck were joined by Ron and Lisa Zegers and Jackie Bolger. Once they finished their holiday drive, they went to The County Restaurant to have dinner together.
"There were people from their porches waving at us and cheering us on," Horton said. "It was fun for us."
