Carol Pulvermacher's upcoming show at The Spiral Gallery includes a little bit of everything.

"This and That" will hang in the gallery through the end of this month. There will be an artist reception for the show from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 3, in the gallery at 341 S. Broadway St.

Along with her traditional pyrography and abstract painting, Pulvermacher's show also features photography and a new painting method.

Her favorite piece in the show is a painting called "I Remember."

"Some memories in life are good, and it takes me to a very happy place," she said. "Maybe it will take others somewhere."

Along with the drip method of abstract painting that she typically uses, Pulvermacher also incorporated a new style of painting that involved using sponges cut into various shapes.

Several of the pyrography pieces in "This and That" are tables and other pieces of furniture.

"People say they don't have room for art, but maybe you do," she encouraged.

Much of Pulvermacher's photography was inspired by a trip to Wisconsin, where she saw the remains of an old ship.

"That's what started it for me," she said. "It's the little things, and the minute little tiny pieces we overlook."

She described photography as "much more instant" than the other mediums she works in. "You can take a picture

and see it immediately," she added.

Pulvermacher noted that there are many unique elements to the show. "It might not have a smooth flow, but that's in the title," she said.
