Young bookworms recently gathered at the Estacada Public Library to stake out new spots to enjoy their favorite stories.

On Wednesday, June 19, the Estacada library's summer reading events kicked off with a family fort read-in program. Attendees used chairs, blankets and clips to create forts to read in at the Flora Room. Approximately 16 children and their families attended the event.

Along with a summer learning week from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Monday, July 8, through Friday, July 12, additional activities for the library's younger visitors include a Lego session using Technic and power functions on Wednesday, July 17; a felted alien creation session for ages 10-18 on Wednesday, July 24; a visit from the Creature Teachers on Wednesday, July 31; a visit from the Museum of Natural and Cultural History on Wednesday, Aug. 8; and an end of summer reading party on Wednesday, Aug. 14. All activities are free and begin at 1:30 p.m.

Additionally, those 18 or younger can pick up a reading log at the library at 825 N.W. Wade St. any time during June and July to track their literary progress.
