Band strives to make listeners dance
An upcoming performance at The Viewpoint Restaurant and Lounge will encourage people to get up and move.
Dance Floor Mafia will take the stage at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the establishment at 20189 S. Springwater Road.
The band consists of Tod Brunelle on drums and vocals, Kary Joe on guitar and vocals, Will Barnes on bass and vocals and Joanna Bewley on percussion and vocals. The group covers a variety of rock, country, pop and alternative songs from 1970 and onward.
"We look for music that was in the top 40's for its era, and songs that are pretty upbeat, danceable and familiar," Bewley said. "We spend a lot of time tailoring our songs."
She added that "people have a hard time sitting down" during the band's performances.
"We play a lot of upbeat, danceable music. There's lots of dance music," she said. "Everyone dances. It's super fun."
The group strives to engage a variety of ages with their music and enjoys connecting with audience members.
"It's neat to see people in their 20's and much older on the dance floor," Bewley said. "We like to get to know our audience and making sure people feel special."
Bewley appreciates the joy that music gives to the band's listeners.
"I love being up there, giving people a good time and giving them permission to let their guard down. We give them permission to get up and move, and have a good time," she said.
