Estacada musician connects listeners with online concerts
Every Tuesday, singer songwriter Jessie Leigh is reading a story for her younger listeners.
From 7-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays through the end of April, the Estacada-based musician will host a storytime and song live stream for children as community members stay at home to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
"The biggest thing is trying to find ways to connect with audiences since live shows have been canceled," said Jessica Elliot, known in the music world by her stage name Jessie Leigh.
Along with the weekly children's livestream on Facebook, Elliot is also hosting an evening streaming concert at various times on Fridays through the end of this month. Additionally, she's providing music for the Easter service at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, April 12, on the Estacada Community Fellowship Facebook page. Next week, at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, she'll do a takeover of the Oregon Jamboree Facebook page to connect viewers with more music.
Elliot noted that she's striving to be creative with her online shows to provide listeners with a variety of options.
"I'm streaming at different times of the day and doing takeovers of different (Facebook) pages," she said.
She appreciates the interaction with those who are watching the live streams.
"Other than the kids' night, all of the shows are requests. I don't make a set list," she said, adding that she appreciates seeing familiar names appear in the videos' comments. "Going back and reading people's comments is fun. It gives me that little bit of connection that most of us really miss right now."
