Inspiration from the the past and by the future is the foundation for the featured presentation coming up at the Spiral Gallery.

For the show "Looking Back and Looking Forward," artists at the gallery at 341 S. Broadway St. submitted a piece they created early in their careers and one they'd made recently.

"(We're looking at) what has changed in our art and why, and what our art journey has been," said Nina Bradford.

Each member included a short description telling how their work has evolved over the years. The show includes paintings, photos, jewelry, collages, pottery and stained glass, from almost all of the gallery's members.

"I've been making art since I was a kid," Bradford said. "What I do is many different forms of self-expression. It's not just painting and drawing. I used to decorate movie sets."

January is typically the Spiral Gallery's student art show, but members opted to hold a group show instead because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The gallery also isn't hosting its usual First Friday gatherings, because of the coronavirus outbreak, but is open from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. Visitors are asked to wear face masks.

Because of the gallery's limited hours, the show will be featured for two months rather than one and will hang through the end of February.

Artists appreciate collaborating with one another during the gallery's group shows.

"The group shows inspire me to do something new and different," said Kolieha Bush. "I love seeing how different everyone is, and all of the different ways people interpret an idea."
