Tight wins in the high hurdles and the javelin make the difference in a dual win at Gladstone

GLADSTONE — A day of competition filled with 17 events came down to the final race of the day with the Estacada boys pulling off a lopsided win in the 1,600-meter relay to supply the winning points in a 72-69 dual at Gladstone to wrap up the regular season last week.

The quartet of Ben Griffith, Dakota Glover, Matthew Jury and Avery Dryden clocked in with a winning time of 3:48.94, finishing the race a full straightaway ahead of their Gladstone counterparts.

Teammate Matthew Jury won the closest race of the day, running a personal best of 17.90 seconds in the high hurdles to beat Gladstone's Osvaldo Rodriguez by 0.02 hundredths.

In the field, David Stamm won a tight competition against Gladstone's Andrew Prom in the javelin with a winning heave of 150 feet, 11 inches, beating his opponent by less than a foot.

• Gladstone won the girls dual 82-62 with a sweep of the tag-team races making the difference.

The Tri-Valley Conference district meet is Friday and Saturday at Molalla High.
