Molalla proves to be no match for Estacada
Estacada moved to 2-0 on the season on Friday night as they picked up a 28-6 road victory against Molalla.
Senior running back Gabriel Martinez had one of his best games in a Estacada uniform, rushing for 126 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. Quarterback Nick Keller had 144 total yards and a touchdown pass to David Stamm, who led the Rangers with 51 yards receiving.
"We knew that we were going to have to grind this one out," Estacada head coach Andy Mott said. "Our boys were gritty in the trenches on both sides of the ball."
The Rangers marched down the field on their first drive and eventually capped it off with a 10-yard touchdown run by fullback Steven Monahan. Keller ran in the conversion to give Estacada the early 8-0 advantage.
Estacada increased their lead to 16-0 late in the quarter, but Molalla punched one in just before the break to cut the lead to 10.
Even though Estacada had a lack of explosion plays in this contest, the Rangers were able to rely on their rushing attack between the tackles to keep control of the ball.
"We ran downhill all night and we got little chunks to help us keep things going," Mott said. "It was almost all in between the tackles."
After a scoreless third quarter, the Rangers opened up a little in with the passing game in the final period. Keller connected with Stamm for a 25-yard score early in the fourth quarter to give Estacada the comfortable 22-6 advantage.
Just for good measure, Martinez ran in a 2-yard touchdown late in the game to put the cap of the Rangers win.
The real story of the game was the Estacada defense, which gave Molalla fits all night.
