MOLALLA — The Estacada Senior American baseball team came up one win short of reaching the state tournament after suffering an 8-6 loss to Roosevelt in the county playoffs Saturday night.

The same two teams locked up in the first round of the tournament Friday with Roosevelt coming away with a tight 2-1 win, so Estacada had revenge on its mind when it put up runs in each of the first four innings in Saturday's late-night rematch under the lights at Molalla's Heckard Field.

The Rangers saw their lead-off hitters connect and cycle the bases in each of the first four innings. Riley Hovda started it out with a single in the first inning, scoring two batters later on Waylon Riedel's double down the right-field line.

Andrew Riedel started the second inning with a hit and scored when Cody White drove a triple deep into the right-field corner.

In the third, Andrew Turner singled to start the inning and sprinted for home to make it 3-0 when the Roosevelt catcher made an errant throw trying to catch an Estacada runner stealing.

The Rangers kept up the hot bats when James Durand belted a double to deep center field. He came home two batters later on a double by White to the same part of the field.

Despite the consistent scoring, Estacada found itself deadlocked on the scoreboard after the Roughriders erupted for four runs in the top of the fourth.

The next burst would decide the game.

It came in the sixth inning and belonged to Roosevelt.

The Roughriders put together a two-out rally that saw seven straight batters reach base — three hits, three walks and a hit batter. At the end of the flurry, Roosevelt held a commanding 8-4 lead.

Estacada tried to scratch back into contention in the bottom of the sixth when Waylon Riedel banged an RBI-triple over the left-fielder's head. He would find his way home not long after to bring the Rangers within two runs.

That was as close as Estacada would get, as Roosevelt retired five of the next six batters, surrendering only a lead-off walk in the seventh on its way to closing out the game.

After losing its opener to Roosevelt, the Rangers stayed alive with do-or-die victories 12-7 over Grant on Friday and 9-7 over Clackamas on Saturday.
