Estacada's volleyball team put up some fight, but was unable to claim a set in a loss to league-leading Corbett last Thursday.
The Cardinals had Estacada doubled up 18-9 in the second set when the Rangers tried to climb back into contention. Mikaelyn Jennings hammered a kill through the middle to cap a four-point spurt that prompted Corbett to call a timeout.
Estacada kept it going on the other side of the break when Jennings leapt into the air and prepared for a big swing only to see Corbett's tallest player Grace Merrill rising up on the other side of the net. Jennings made a late adjustment and hit a soft tip to win the point and trim Corbett's margin to four.
The Cardinals responded with Merrill rising up again on the next point and swinging through for a kill. Setter Morgan Stafford followed with a dump shot, and Mimi Tesulov targeted the far opposite corner to put Corbett back in full command up 23-15.
The Rangers picked up a couple points when Rylie Canifax made a bump-set around the 10-foot line, hanging the ball into the air for teammate Brooklyn Bresko to flash through and send a left-handed stab into the middle of Corbett's defense. Sidnee Keller followed with a service ace to get the Rangers back within five, but Corbett took the set when Merrill connected with another big swing that caromed off an Estacada player and fell near the far sideline.
Corbett outscored the Rangers 75-56 for the match.
