Heather Shaver leads Estacada runners at state meet, football team falls in first round

Estacada girls beat Corbett at state meet

Estacada finished 11th out of 12 teams Saturday at the 4A girls state cross country meet in Eugene. The Rangers finished with 296 points, led by rookie Heather Shaver in 37th overall with a time of 20:52.90.

The Rangers' support pack came through the finish line less than a minute and six places apart. Kaitlin Willis led that group in 74th with a time of 23:17.5, followed by Megan Holmes (75th, 23:25), Faith Grainger (76th, 23:54.5) and Julia Griffith (79th, 24:13.30).

Senior Dakota Glover finished 60th overall in 17:47.60 in the boys race.

Football team falls to No. 3 La Grande

Estacada dropped a 49-16 decision to No. 3-seed La Grande in the first round of the 4A football playoffs Friday.

Trailing 28-0, Estacada tried to give itself a chance with a drive late in the first half only to be stopped at the 1-yard line on the final play.

La Grande grew its lead to 42-0 before Estacada got onto the scoreboard when QB Isaiah Schaffer hit Riley McDonald for a 35-yard touchdown with 1:35 left in the third quarter. Nate Hagel added a 16-yard touchdown for the Rangers late in the game.
